How do I copy assignments from one Class file to another?
Assignments can be copied from one Class file to another in either of two ways.
As a precaution, it is a good idea to save your Class file just before copying, cutting or clearing rows of data. The steps below may result in lost information if not preformed carefully, so backup your class files prior to any changes, and check the results as a precaution after any copying operation.
These two methods are explained below:
eClass Grades' 'Copy From' feature enables you to rapidly and easily transfer a variety of information from one Class file to another.
Transferable data include:
- Assignment lists
- Categories
- Comments
- Grading Periods
- Grading Scales
- Special Scores
- Calendars
- Class Information
- Seating Charts
1) Select the 'Copy From' dialog, located in the Class menu.
2) Place a check into one or more of the checkboxes to determine what data you'd like copied into your Class file.
3) Place check marks into the 'append' checkboxes besides any options you've checked, unless your current class file is a new one or unless you specifically want the incoming data to overwrite any preexisting data (it will!).
4) Click 'Select File' to see a list of Class files. Select the file from which you want to copy the data, and then click 'Open'.
The dialogs will disappear, and the data you've requested will be copied into the current Class file, to replace or be appended to any existing data (depending on your choices above).
Note that with eClass Grades' Copy From feature, you can set up a Class file as an informal template to use as a model for other classes.
'Copy and Paste' method:
Alternatively, you can use 'Copy and Paste' to transfer data from one class to another:
1) Go to the Assignments window in the class from which you want to copy assignments.
2) If you want to copy all of the assignments, choose 'Select All' from the Edit menu.
To highlight just particular assignments, hold down the [Command] key while clicking on individual assignments' row numbers in the Assignments window, or hold down the [Shift] key while clicking and dragging the cursor over any range of row numbers.
3) Choose 'Copy' from the Edit menu, to copy the selected assignments to a storage space called the Clipboard.
4) From the File menu, open the class into which you want to copy the assignments (you can open an existing class or start a new class). Your old class will be automatically closed.
Note that if you want scores to be transferred alongside the assignments, your student roster needs to be identical in both the old and new Class files.
5) Position your cursor in the Assignments window (assignments will be copied into this window, starting just above your cursor's location).
6) Choose 'Paste' from the Edit menu.
All of your copied assignments will appear in the Assignments window, starting just above your cursor's location there.
